History
The BKF 2000 is a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic BKF chair, originally created in 1938 by Argentine architects Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy—members of the Austral Group. That initial version, a symbol of Río de la Plata modernism, combined a lightweight metal frame with a suspended leather sling, becoming one of the greatest benchmarks of Argentine design on the international stage.
Designed by architects Juan Blas Doberti and Carlos María Rimoldi, the BKF 2000 pays homage to the original spirit while projecting it into the 21st century. Its geometry takes on a more sculptural expression; while maintaining the essence of the tubular structure, it explores new proportions, materials, and a strong architectural presence.
It is currently part of the urban furnishings of the City of Buenos Aires. Constructed from reinforced concrete and weighing approximately 160 kg, it transforms a modern design icon into a monumental piece that integrates art, architecture, and public space.
